This is the image of a graphic file created by Kuniharu Shimitzu, a Tenrikyo Priest and Graphic Artist from the city of Tenri, Japan. He and I started corresponding when he sent me email with comments about my website one day in 1996. He offered to tranlate my name, "McNerney" into traditional Japanese characters for US$5D. I agreed, and the following day sent this image to me via email. I wrapped a $5 bill in paper and mailed it to the address he gave me.
Several weeks later, I emailed him, wondering if he was making any money in his scheme to translate names into Japanese characters. He responded later that day, saying he had made the same offer to others, and he had made 19 translations. So far, only 2 had sent the $5! And I was one of them.
Now, he does it for free to anyone who asks. -John-
